Why Midnight Meat Train Got Buried

Clive Barker has come out with both barrels blasting at the President of LionsGate Joe Drake who is now probably one of the most hated men in horror. Clive Barker is saying via MTV that Joe Drake deliberately buried Midnight Meat Train which is a really good horror movie so that The Strangers which he was a producer on... would shine.

That right Midnight Meat Train ( review ) got its release date bumped to a limited release in Dollar Stores to stroke an ego if you believe Clive. Clive tells MTV the only reason his movie didnt get wide release is so that Joe Drake could have his ego stroked and that he is a 'little man' and a 'nobody'. Of course Joe Drake is not a nobody and it would seem he has more then enough power to crush a movie. It does however invite the question... why do you crush your own movie?

The movie made around $85,000 being released in packed Dollar Theatres around the United States and you are hard pressed to find a horror fan who doesn't ask why on earth LionsGate did this. Look at Mirrors which opened with $14million and very little buzz accept for some gruesome clips that popped up at Comic Con.  Midnight Meat Train had massive buzz and fan support. So why would a studio throw away an easy $14million??

Is Clive right? Did Joe Drake the head of LionsGate bury it so 'his movie' would look better? Or Is Clive just pissed off and looking to vent? Its tough to say what happened but it is safe to say that we the horror fans got ripped off and the studio lost millions in potential box office bling by doing what they did. The whole thing makes zero sense. Why would a studio want one of their own movies to be a bomb?
