Chan-wook's Thirst Receives U.S. Funds

Park Chan-wook is most well known for his Vengeance triology but now he is making his first horror film, Thirst. I'm not sure how this one will actually turn out because there will be a love story involved and as you can guess from the title it is a vampire film.

Today Variety reports that Universal Pictures and Focus Features will help produce his already in production film. This marks the first time and Korean film has recieved backing from U.S. Studio. This deal means a lot for the Korean film industry which is very excited about what future productions might recieve U.S. funding.

Focus is going to distribute the film in the U.S. which means it will definitely receive some kind of theatrical release. CJ Entertainment, the Korean studio behind the project, will oversee all foreign markets. The film is expected to rollout sometime in 2009. So keep it here for more.
