Status of The Poughkeepsie Tapes
It's a film that probably many of you forgot about, but The Poughkeepsie Tapes has been tuck in MGM's vault since they scrapped it's release right before it was about to hit screens in February. Fangoria Radio had was doing an interview with Directors John and Drew Dowdle for their new film Quarantine and asked what the status of The Poughkeepsie Tapes was as they directed that as well. John and Drew stated they dont know why MGM stopped the release last minute or what MGM has in store for the film, but it will most likely hinge on the success of Quarantine. They said depending on how well Quarantine does will determine if The Poughkeepsie Tapes will get a wide release, a limited release, or go straight to DVD. No matter which it is, it probably wont see release until early 2009, over a year since it was originally supposed to debut only to get the plug pulled at the last minute.
The Poughkeepsie Tapes is a movie about the events surrounding the Water Street Butcher, otherwise known as James Foley, and his onslaught of serial killings that occurred in Poughkeepsie, New York throughout the 1990’s. These tapes are thought to have been filmed by Foley himself as he was committing unspeakable acts and used by the FBI to profile violent, psychopathic behavior in others.
I guess we will have to wait and see how Quarantine does and see if MGM decides to take a chance on another John and Drew Dowdle film.
