If only all genre classic remakes were as hard to get off the ground like the planned redux of Clive Barker's Hellraiser, I think everyone here would be happy. The remake has had a troubled past, but one that did get some excitment from fans. Originally attached to the project were Alexandre Bustillo & Julien Maury of the French horror film Inside, the pair was also suppose to write the screenplay. Then their script was dropped and Marcus Dustan & Patrick Melton of the Feast films and last two Saws were attached to write. Sometime later, Bustillo & Maury left the project. The rumor mill kicked up again with Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II-IV, Repo!) rumored to direct. Then, things went quiet.

Well, it appears the Weinsteins are still dead set on getting this film moving. Bloody-Disgusting learned not only that there is a new director chatting with the Weinsteins; but that the Dustan/Melton script will not be used for the film. The mysterious director is another Frenchman by the name of Pascal Laugier. Laugier's prevoius directorial credit is a film called Martyrs. Dimension Extreme is due to release the film onto DVD in early 2009.

Well folks, lets see if Lauguier will actually get this film off the ground. No one has been attached to write the screenplay yet. Hellraiser was originally going to be released in early 2009, but with recent issues, no release date has been given.
