Del Toro to Direct Jekyll & Hyde?

We have heard previously of Guillermo del Toro's interest in directing another take of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Well today he spoke with the folks over at the MTV Movie Blog about adapting Robert Louis Stevenson's "Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" after he finishes The Hobbit.

If you tell the story fully, you can not only see it as a story of repression, of the build-up of repression until it manifests itself like a monster. I think that Hyde — yes, he’s a creature of subterranean desire and all that — but it’s more than that. He’s an addiction. In every story of addiction, people seem to [underestimate] what the addiction does to the person,” Del Toro continued. “And what does Hyde give Jekyll that is so powerful? That can be explored.

Apparently he is still interested in doing a Frankenstein film because he hinted at that later in the interview, “My interest is to do a series of Victorian horror movies, because it’s part of the heritage that was getting lost. The more the merrier.”
