Preacher Gets Picked Up Again

Awhile back I'm sure you will remember that Preacher was announced to go to the silver screen. Well somehow they got so far into pre-production that they actually had make-up tests.. Well that fell through in the long run. Then came along Mark Steven Johnson who was setting the show up at HBO. But then the show turned out to be even too dark and violent for them.

Lucky for us Columbia Pictures have decided to pick up the torch and run with the project. THR has announced that Columbia Pictures has tapped Sam Mendes to direct. No word on who will develop the script but I'm sure there are many drafts floating around out there.

For those of you unfamiliar to the comic, it was created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon and ran from 1995-2000. Preacher told the story of a down-and-out Texas preacher possessed by Genesis, a supernatural entity conceived by the unnatural coupling of an angel and a demon. Given immense powers, the preacher teamed with an old girlfriend and a hard-drinking Irish vampire and set out on a journey across America to find God -- who apparently had abandoned his duties in heaven -- and hold him accountable for his negligence.
