Ghostbusters Game gets Rescued!

So it's been a while since we talked about Ghostbusters: The Video Game.  Unfortunately it has been stuck in release hell since Vivendi got dissolved by Activision Blizzard who inturn announced they would not pick up the game for release.  Seeing as though the game was near completion and set for a late 2008 release date, it was unknown what may happen to the near complete game.  So when the Ghostbusters need saving, who they gonna call?  Apparently Atari.

In a press release last week, Atari announced they acquired the rights to Ghostbusters: The Video Game.  Atari stated that they will be working closely with Sony Pictures and game developer Terminal Reality to get the game completed and prepped for release.  No word yet on any official release date but all signs point to June 2009 as this would coincide with the 25th anniversary of the original Ghostbusters film.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game is being written by Dan Aykryod and Harold Ramis who penned the original films.  The game takes place 2 years after the end of the Ghostbusters 2 and gamers play as a new recruit who is helping the original gang capture ghosts that have overrun New York City.   Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and William Atherton all return to voice their characters, as well as Brian Doyle-Murray being added as the voice of the new NYC Mayor.  The only significant cast member not returning to voice their character is Rick Moranis who is pretty much out of the Hollywood scene. The game is set to be released on all video game platforms (PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, and PC)
