Romeros Night of the Living Dead Goes 3D

In very odd news MarketSaw is reporting that George Romero's classic Night of the Living Dead is going to be re-released in 3d. I have come down hard on 3d as a gimmick and in some cases not fairly. But this is one case where I feel very strongly that this is nothing more then a gimmick. How do you take the 60's classic and release it in 3d and make it at all fun and entertaining for fans?

Perhaps if you re-shot it in 3d but I do not get what value it brings to fans to release the original black and white 2d film... in 3d. Perhaps some of you who understand 3D technology and converting old 2d to 3d can share some information in the comments on how the process works and how good it looks when done.
