Hellraiser: Reboot or Remake?
Need your opinions here - What is the difference between a reboot and a remake of a movie? Especially in the case of one such as Hellraiser, is it a way to define completely redoing a movie vs just a different take on a movie? or is it merely a marketing ploy used to get us more excited about a remake of a movie that had very limited success in the first place?
Either way, filmsactu spoke to director Pascal Laugier about the upcoming reboot/remake of Hellraiser. Laugier insists to all that it is not a remake, but is actually a reboot - judge for yourselves.
"As mentioned, the film will be a reboot not a remake," Laugier explains. "It'll take elements from the first Hellraiser film as well as Clive Barker's novel The Hellbound Heart, which the film was based off of. Both Frank and Julia will be present and therefore a big part the story I'm sure. The first draft is finished, albeit in french, so it's in the process of being translated to english."
What I got from that is that this apparent 'reboot' is based on the original movie as well as the book that the original was based on. hmmm - not sure where the originality is coming from that would make this a reboot, it sounds to me like they're trying to piggyback of the success of other 'reboots' such as Hallowe'en and Friday the 13th. Thoughts?
