More News on the Thing Prequel

Ronald Moore dishes about the Thing PrequelThings at 'The Thing' camp are moving along swimingly, according to Ronald Moore, the writer commissioned for the script for the prequel, who previously worked on 'Battlestar Gallactica'.  Moore talked to scifi wire about the progress on the script and offers some inside details.

"I was working on The Thing. I finished. I did my last draft a few weeks ago and turned it in. They [Universal Pictures] seem happy. They have a director [Matthijs Van Heijningen] assigned, and we'll wait to see when and if they green-light it."

Matthijs is also on the slate to direct the 'Army of the Dead' for next years release and previously directed 'Red Rain' about 5 years ago or so.  Now Moore went on some more about the thinking behind the script for 'The Thing'.

"Well, the idea was to make a companion piece to Carpenter's. I started on the project with the feeling that Carpenter's version is just an amazing piece of work. It's a great film, and we really wanted to honor that version. We wanted a piece that would link up to [the Carpenter film] and not supplant it. So we didn't try to sort of completely reinvent what it was. We wanted a movie that would sort of live alongside it."

Ronald Moore is certainly a talented writer, and I'm sure that he could pull off his goals that he was talking about, but we'll have to see if the production can match the script in this one - keep watching here for more 'The Thing' updates!
