Ghostbusters 3 Updates from Harold Ramis
Everybody is pumped to hear about a third installment in the Ghostbuster's franchise, and there have been lots of rumours flying about when and where and who might be involved in this project. EW caught up with Harold Ramis, who co-wrote and starred in the first two Ghostbuster movies, who confirmed a few key points that are very interesting!
According to Ramis, the third installation in the comedic supernatural series is in the works, and the original cast will be returning!
"Everybody said they'd do it", explains Ramis, "They’ll be looking at younger actors [for the lead roles], I’m sure. But we’ll be in it as mentors or advisers."
That's awesome news, I understand why he thinks they'll be needing younger actors to play the roles of the ghostbusters, since those are physically demanding jobs and the original actors are all getting up there in age. It would also be pretty funny to see them bring back the old timers to do the job again - something like Clint Eastwood's Space Cowboys!
Ramis continued on to give some insight on whether or not we'll see the Ghostbusters go to hell concept that Dan Akroyd came up with in the 90's and was planning as the third installment back then.
"As soon as Danny said it, I thought that was really funny. But now there’s a new concept," Ramis says. "And it’s interesting, beyond the kind of mythology of it, there’s a personal story that’s pretty grounded."
Either way, it'll likely be awhile before we see anything concrete from this project. The script is being worked on by the exec-producers of the Office, Gene Stupinksy and Lee Eisenberg.
"they work full-time on The Office, the script process is slow," says Ramis. "Even if there was a great script by the end of the summer, it would be a year before [we could go into production]. It’s a big movie. Lots of prep."
It's exciting to hear about a third Ghostbuster's movie, but let's hope they get their act together and do this right. The last thing we need is some re-make or reboot to destroy this series. Also with the younger actors coming into the lead roles, it would seem that they are setting it up for the possibility of more movies down the road by introducing a new cast - sure hope they stay out of that alley as well.
