30 Days of Eclipse!?!?

Many names from Drew Barrymore to Paul Weitz have made the rounds of who will helm the next installment to the tween sensation Twilight.  However, the name HollyWoodReporter has comes so out of left field that if this was April 1st, it would be laughed off.  But it ain't April 1st.

David Slade, director of the disturbing Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night has signed onto helm the next Twilight film Eclipse.  You read this right, the director of 30 Days of Night goes Twilight.  Summit Head Erik Feig said:

"Stephenie Meyer's Eclipse is a muscular, rich, vivid book and we at Summit looked long and hard for a director who could do it justice.  We believe we have found that talent in David Slade, a director who has been able to create complex, visually arresting worlds.  We can't wait to see the Eclipse he brings to life and brings to the fans eagerly awaiting it's arrival in the summer of 2010."

Of all the directors in all the world, they nail the man who gave vampires the needed boost from just being 'cool' back to being real mean, blood hungry creatures.  I had to do the natural double take upon seeing this.  It would have been equally shocking to see Tomas Alfedson (Let The Right One In) getting into the director's chair.

It's great to see Slade directing again, but...this?  Maybe this might be good news for the single Twilight fan on the website.  The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will be coming to theaters June 30, 2010.
