Lighting Media Picks up Zombie Flick Bio-DeadMeh
Lightning Media, a Los Angeles based motion picture distributor, has secured the North American and UK rights to Manfred Evets Productions’ post apocalyptic themed horror film “BIO-DEAD”. The deal was negotiated on behalf of the filmmakers by Exec-Producer/Producer's Rep Paul W. Hazen with Lightning Entertainment's Senior VP of Acquisitions Joseph Dickstein.
Set in the not-too-distant future, “BIO-DEAD” takes place during the aftermath of a bioterrorist attack that has killed twelve million people and rendered Southern California uninhabitable. The once thriving mecca has now become a contaminated wasteland known as “The Zone”. Hazmat teams are dispatched into “The Zone” to search for survivors and document all casualties.
When a lone hazmat team enters a seemingly abandoned building after dark, the men begin to experience terrifying hallucinations and soon realize that they are not alone. Trapped inside the compound with no escape, the terrified team finds themselves locked in a struggle for survival against a vicious predator… and each other.
“BIO-DEAD” is the feature debut for writer/director Stephen J. Hadden, whose short film “Where’s Julie?” premiered at the 2006 New York City Horror Film Festival.
“We are thrilled that BIO-DEAD has found a home with Lightning Media,” Hadden announced today. “I was extremely impressed with Lightning’s vast catalogue of horror, thriller and sci-fi titles. They are obviously a company that not only appreciates genre films, but also understands how to market them successfully.”
Lightning Media’s recent genre releases include “The Devil’s Ground” starring Daryl Hannah, “Columbus Day” starring Val Kilmer and Wilmer Valderrama, the World War II sci-fi thriller “Warbirds”, “Kemper: The Coed Killer” based on real-life serial killer Ed Kemper, and the upcoming Finnish gorefest “Skeleton Crew”.
“BIO-DEAD” is slated to make its world premiere on nationwide video-on-demand in August ‘09. The DVD shall be released by one of Lightning’s partners shortly thereafter.
The cast of “BIO-DEAD” includes Derek Long (“Socket”, “3-Day Weekend”, “Black Dawn”), Matthew C. Norton (“Queer as Folk”, “America’s Next Top Model”, “G-Spot”), Tony Williams (Trio Network’s “Pilot Season”, TLC’s “Untold Stories of the ER), Rick Hall (“Red Spirit Lake”, “Ferrum 5000”) and Jacob W. Gentry (“Kiss From Calcutta”). The film was produced by Manfred Drews, II.
