Mutant Chronicles Hitting SciFi, then DVD

The new trend for smaller straight to DVD films seems to be to play the movie on the Sci Fi channel just weeks before the DVD release.  That was the case recently with Toby Wilkins film Splinter, and now that it the case with Simon Hunter's film Mutant Chronicles.  According to Fangoria, Mutant Chronicles will be playing on Sci Fi channel.  Notice I said Sci Fi and not SyFy, thats because the name change does not occur until July, and Mutant Chronicles will be playing at the end of June.  You can catch Mutant Chronicles Saturday, June 27th at 9pm and a follow up showing on Sunday June 28h at 630pm.  I assume this times are Eastern Standard Time, but check your local listings to be sure.

If you would rather not sit through commercial break and edited material or you watch it on Sci Fi and like what you see, well then good news.  Multiple DVD outlets have the Mutant Chronicles for preorder on DVD with a release date of August 4th, just about a month after it makes its debut on Sci Fi.  Director Simon Hunter had talk of a 2 or 3 disc edition but at this point it appears to only be a single-disc edition.

Mutant Chronicles is currently getting a 72.5% rating based on 4 reviews we have on site.  I personally enjoyed the hell out of it so I am eager to see the US Directors Cut as Director Simon Hunter said it is a much better cut and the definitive version of the film to see.  It is all green-screen special effects, like 300 or Gabriel, so some people may not like it but go in just looking for some good action and mutant armies and I think everyone will enjoy it.

Mutant Chronicles takes place in the year 2707.  War rages between Earth's four giant Corporations as they battle over the planet's dwindling resources. Amid heavy combat, an ancient buried seal shatters, releasing a horrific mutant army from its eternal prison deep within the Earth. As the mutant plague threatens human extinction, a single squad of soldiers descends into the Earth to save mankind. Starring Thomas Jane(The Mist), Ron Perlman(Hellboy series), Anna Walton(Hellboy II), Devon Aoki(Sin City), and John Malkovich.
