US Military Developing Robots That Feed on Corpses

Meh

Skidog posted on our boards about something that is even creepier then Skynet. The US Military has been in development on a new robot for the battlefield that will be powered by 'organic debris' found on the Battlefield.

The new robots are called EATR's which stands for Energetically Autonmous Tactical Robots. Clearly since it has the words Tactical this robot will be on the battle field to do more then just stare blankly and intimidate people. The official site for the robot design has the following less ominous description;

The purpose of the Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot (EATR)™ (patent pending) project is to develop and demonstrate an autonomous robotic platform able to perform long-range, long-endurance missions without the need for manual or conventional re-fueling, which would otherwise preclude the ability of the robot to perform such missions.

The system obtains its energy by foraging – engaging in biologically-inspired, organism-like, energy-harvesting behavior which is the equivalent of eating. It can find, ingest, and extract energy from biomass in the environment (and other organically-based energy sources), as well as use conventional and alternative fuels (such as gasoline, heavy fuel, kerosene, diesel, propane, coal, cooking oil, and solar) when suitable.

The project was started in 2003 and by the year 2020 I am sure we will all be herded into cattle cars and terminated. Lets not forget how Skynet started in the movies with the best intentions in mind... and mankinds destruction at the end!
