Rob Zombie Directing BLOB Remake

Tks to Avery for the heads up today that Rob Zombie is once again doing a remake. Everytime I hear he is doing another remake/sequel I think of the time he put his foot in his mouth talking about directors who do these remakes in a negative way. We have known for awhile that Paramount was doing a remake produced by Scott Rudin and now we have a quote from Rob via Variety;

 "I’d been looking to break out of the horror genre, and this really is a science fiction movie about a thing from outer space. I intend to make it scary, and the great thing is, I have the freedom once again to take it in any crazy direction I want to. Even more than 'Halloween', where I had to deal with accepted iconic characters like Michael Myers and Laurie Strode. 'The Blob' is more concept than specific storyline with characters, so I can go nuts with it. My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing ... I have a totally different take, one that’s pretty dark."

Gotta say I disagree. The blob is a horror movie so no idea how its a break out.  Paramount picked up the project from Warner Brothers, where the film's original producer, Jack Harris, set it up.  The movie centers on a jelly-like substance that crashes from space and grows as it consumes every human in its path.

The original movie from the year 1958 launched the career of Steve McQueen. It also had a sequel called "Beware! The Blob", also known as "Son of (the) Blob", which was made in 1972.

"The Blob" already had a remake in 1988. The script was writen by Frank Darabont and Chuck Russell, who also directed.
