Halloween 3D?

Hot on the heels of learning how Rob Zombie's Halloween II fared in theaters ($17.8 million), the Weinsteins have announced production on a third film is a go.  This one, will be in 3D and will be given the unimaginative title Halloween 3DLATimes reports that Bob Weintsein is currently talking with a new director, who apparently is a horror veteran and has a different take on the series.

Which begs the question, what different take?  Will it pick up from Zombie's film or will it be another reboot?  John Carpenter's Michael we can infer from the brief scene at the start of the original he grew up in a middle class neighborhood and Zombie took Michael to the polar opposite with him growing up in dysfunctional household.  So what's the different take?  That I'm most interested in.

Halloween 3D will certainly have a larger budget than Zombie's two films because even in the digital age 3D is expensive and more time consuming to shoot.  I can bet the Weinsteins are hedging their bets the 3D will boost sales.  We'll keep you updated on who this new director is and what the word coming from Dimension is.  Halloween 3D is slated for a Summer 2010 release.
