Scream Awards 2009 Winners
A while back we covered the nominee's for Spike TV's Scream Awards and provided you horror fans with the link to vote on what you thought deserved to win. While the show itself does not air until October 27th, the awards ceremony was last night where the winners were announced. If you plan on watching the awards read no further. For those who had no interest in watching the event and were curious of the winners keep on reading because there was some good representation from horror films and TV, but how did they fare when the awards were handed out?
Drag Me to Hell took the honors for the award that I think we would be most interested in. Sam Raimi's return to the horror genre won the award given out for Best Horror film. DMTH was voted by you, the fans, as the winner over other nominees Dead Snow, Friday the 13th, Let the Right One In, Splinter, and My Bloody Valentine 3D. Personally I would of been happy with any of those films winning other than F13, so I guess I can be happy about this one.
The awards for best horror actor and actress went to Anna Paquin and Steven Moyer, both for the HBO series True Blood. Alexander Skarsgard also won for best villain for his work in the series and the show won the best TV show award as well. While I am not a True Blood fan, it is good to see a horror program take home a handful of awards.
Along with True Blood's 4 wins, Twilight also won 4 awards at the show as well. While I have always maintained that just because it has vampire's that doesnt make it horror, the film was nominated and won it's awards in other categories. It won for Best Fantasy Film, Best Fantasy Actor(Rob Pattinson), Best Fantasy Actress(Kristen Stewart), and Breakthrough Performance(Taylor Lautner). While this may be the only awards show other than The Razzies to ever net some of these actors awards for their roles, it's still noteworthy for all you Twihards out there. With the sequel, New Moon, about a month away from it's release we are almost guaranteed to be seeing the sequel with lots of repeat nominations at next years Scream Awards.
The Scream Awards airs October 27th, so be sure to check it out if you would like to see the winners & their acceptance speeches, as well as other awards like best "holy shit" moment, Best Sci-Fi movie, Best Comic Book Movie, and many more. And for all you Twihards out there, be sure to tune in as there will also be a world premiere of some new footage from the upcoming New Moon.
