New Moon Still #1...But Not By Much

This weekend marked the day where millions of Americans feast their faces stupid with bird carcasses and the next day fight like rabid badgers trying to grab the precious few discounted items on sale.  It also marked the release of several new films and expansions of older films, but for a second week in a row The Twilight Saga: New Moon held onto the number 1 spot...just barely.  And I do mean, just barely

BoxOfficeMojo has the estimates for the weekend and New Moon grossed $42.5million dollars, a 70% drop from the $140million it had grossed opening weekend.  The Blind Side was at number two with $40.1million, almost toppling the tween film.  Even so, New Moon sits with a cool $230.6million domestic and $473.6milion worldwide gross; which is almost $100million more than what the original made during its full run.

The highly anticipated film The Road opened at number eleven with $1.5million at 111 locations.  Hopefully the film will be expanded during the coming weeks.  So far we have no reviews on our site, but if it's playing near you, tell us how it is.  Sure it's probably not the most festive of films being all post-apocalyptic, but it looks damn good.

Will New Moon hold onto the top box office spot for a third week?  Looking at how much it fell this week, I don't think it will.  Coming up on the slate is the comedy Transylmania coming out December 4 and Peter Jackson's adaptation of the novel The Lovely Bones on December 11.
