District 9 Nets 4 Oscar Nominations

This morning at about 8:40amEST the Academy announced the nominations for the Oscars.  And District 9 didn't come up dry.  After getting nominated for seven British BAFTA Awards, Neill Blomkamp's Sci-Fi opus has achieved four Academy Award nominations. 

Nominations for District 9:

• Best Picture -  Peter Jackson & Carolynne Cummingham
  
• Best Editing - Julian Clarke
  
• Best Adapted Screenplay -  Neill Blomkamp & Terri Tatchell
  
• Best Visual Effects - Dan Kaufman, Peter Muyzers, Robert Habros, Matt Aitken

A big congratulations to everyone involved.  A bit sad that Blomkamp wasn't nominated for Best Director, but the fact that a science fiction film was nominated for Best Picture is still an achievement.  I was expecting the film to be nominated for Best Makeup as well, but can't have everything.  Tune in March 7, 2010 to find out the winners.
