The Thing Redux Gains Its Stars

Awhile back it was reported that another movie based on the 1938 short story, "Who Goes There?" was underway. For those of you still scratching your head The Thing. Today thanks to THR we have word on who will be starring in this retelling of the story by director Matthijs Van Heijningen which was written by Ronald D. Moore and Eric Heisserer.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Final Destination 3) and Joel Edgerton are set to star. Winstead will play a Ph.D. candidate who joins a Norwegian research team in Antarctica after it discovers an alien ship in the ice. When a trapped organism is freed and begins a series of attacks, she is forced to team with a blue-collar mercenary helicopter pilot (Edgerton) to stop the rampage.

They are set to begin filming on March 15th in Toronto. If I was to make a snap judgement on this one.. I'm guessing it will be a flashy, updated, glossy, Hollywood version of John Carpenter's classic. Given his film was also a remake.. For some reason I'm not holding out much hope on this one.
