The Future of Dexter From Paleyfest

Paleyfest 2010 just ended and thanks to Dread Central we have word on what was said during the Dexter panel about what might happen next season. Now if you haven't seen the finale for Dexter Season 4 yet I should warn you that their is some spoilers ahead.

Dread Central reports, a lot of the Season 5 info came from Executive Producer Sara Colleton, who revealed that it will pick up right where Season 4 ended, enabling the audience to grieve along with Dexter. As for whether or not Deb will ever "know" about Dex, Colleton said it was "important for the series (vs. a film) for nobody to know Dexter's real identity but Dexter". The writers are hesitant to go in that direction due to how it would spoil the dynamic between the two characters. Carpenter chimed in that she was "scared" to think along those lines.

Also despite earlier rumors that the show might only go 5 seasons, Producer Scott Buck says that the end point for the show is "very far away". Another interesting tidbit that was hinted at is that they will eventually show a dark side to Dexter's kids. Next season should be interested giving the ending to Season 4.
