Deadlands 3 Is Coming!
WETNWILDRADIO Films announced today that pre-production is slowly beginning on the last entry into the Deadlands zombie film franchise. This third entry will delve into the post apocalypse and follow a small group of survivors who are trying to exist in the zombie infested world.
This final entry was the original sequel to 2006's Deadlands: The Rising, however during re-writes characters from the original Deadlands 1 were replaced with newer characters, but the screenplay retained its original storyline. Gary Ugarek, writer and director of Deadlands 1 & 2, has been joined by Women's Studies scribe Lonnie Martin for this outting.
"I had originally written the screenplay after wrapping Deadlands 1 back in 2006, and I then asked Lonnie, a close friend, to look it over and he asked to join the project and tweak the screenplay, flushing out the characters and adding a few twists of his own. Since Lonnie joined the project in 2007 we have talked extensively about the characters and the story and in the end the screenplay we are going into pre-production with is on its 5th draft. I think this will not only be the best of the Deadlands zombies flicks, but I also truly believe fans will embrace the characters and the story line." Gary Ugarek told us.
Gary will helm the directors chair once again, and is hoping that Lonnie, who also directed the soon to be released Women's Studies will join him in the directorial efforts.
"Since Lonnie and I have worked on this project and he has helped with Deadlands 1 & 2, I would love him to come on the project as a producer and 2nd unit director. While we have only talked about it briefly on and off, I am hoping his schedule will open up and he can join in on the zombie mayhem."
Deadlands 3 will be the first Deadlands film Gary Ugarek has shared writing credit. As far as casting is concerned... They have put the screenplay out to some very notable talent in the horror genre and some of them are eager to come aboard if their schedules allow.
As far as returning cast members from the previous two films Gary has said "Like Romero's zombie films the characters change from story to story, but as far as the actors from previous films coming back... Hell Yes! I would love to have Jim Krut back again, and as far as Deadlands series regulars Dave Cooperman, and Michelle Wright... They always have a part in my films. I also hope I can bring back the cast from Deadlands 2 to absorb some of the other smaller roles because since making parts 1 & 2 the production has become a very close knit type of family. We are always trying to make sure we look out for one another. To have Ashley, Corrine, Joe, Chris and Josh come back would be truly awesome and would make the circle complete."
Expect Deadlands 3 to start filming in the spring of 2011. Gary has said he wants to make sure it can be released in 2012 and he is hoping for a three times the charm in winning the award for Best Zombie film at the Fright Night Film Fest with Deadlands 3.
"I plan on entering the film into Fright Night 2012, and I hope we get accepted, nominated and we win.. it would be nice to have the award for Best Zombie Film three times and for each film in the Deadlands series."
Deadlands 3 will be filming in Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania throughout 2011.
