David R. Ellis Signs onto Shark Night 3D

When someone writes a book about horror and the early 2000s; David R. Ellis will forever be remembered as the man who directed Snakes on a Plane, the most obviously titled film to ever hit movie theaters in the last ten years.  It was also a lot of fun, something I can't say about his last film The Final Destination.  However, Ellis' new film does sound interesting, from a title strandpoint.

Deadline reports that David R. Ellis has signed on to direct Shark Night 3D; which as you can judge by the title will be shot in 3D and not digitally converted afterward.  No storyline has been made available yet, but I imagine it has to do with sharks eating people at night and its gonna be in 3D.

Ellis has worked with 3D camera systems on Destination so he comes across as an obvious choice.  Incentive Filmed Entertainment will put up $28million to produce the shark movie which is due to go before cameras this summer.  Walt Conti, who did the sharks for Deep Blue Sea will be building the practical beasts.

For those of you who remember Shark Night 3D isn't the only 3D killer shark film in the works.  Razorback helmer Russell Mulcahy is attached to direct Bait, a 3D shark film about a group of shoppers trapped in a flooded shopping center with a pack of tiger sharks.  Mulcahy is currently working on the Teen Wolf reboot for TV so depending on when he wraps on that and starts production on Bait; Night will be first out the gate.  Keep on the lookout here as more comes to light.
