Eli Roths Last Exorcism Nothing but Hype
All week I have been seeing nothing but more and more buzz for Eli Roth's newly released The Last Exoricm. Everytime I turned around a public relations agent for LionsGate is tweeting another bloggers review about how awesome the movie was. Frankly I have not seen a single bad word about the movie which made me tihnk we might have ourselves a keeper. Seems however that fans dont agree with the verdict that critics have proclaimed that The Last Exorcism is a must see film.
I am not a huge fan of Eli Roth's films so I never expected to like it and the fact its another one of those sneaky 'brought to you by Eli Roth' and not actually directed or written by him made me less inclined to watch it.
Seems that once again just like all the horrible Quentin Tarantino presents films we have ourselves a stinker wrapped in a big directors name. We have 3 reviews on site so far and the film has a failing grade of 40% approval. DeadbyDawn says in his review;
Contrary to what cult icon Eli Roth's name on the production credits might suggest, The Last Exorcism, birthed by director Daniel Stamm, and writers Huck Botko and Andrew Gurland, is a rather mild-mannered demon.
So far, many of the film’s reviewers have described it sort of how I would describe drunk sex: It starts off fun with lots of energy, becomes a bit nonsensical, then ends on a rather disappointing note. (Not that I’ve had drunk sex. I neither drink nor sex.) [ read review ]
Goldensimatar says in his review;
The Last Exorcism is a disappointment, a muddled mess of a disappointment. But before leaping straight into it, lets set down the story. Cotton Marcus, a preacher in the South, no longer believes in the concept of exorcism after reading about several children dying while the exorcism was preformed. Seeking to prove that exorcism is a shame, Marcus along with a documentary crew goes into the backwoods to ‘exorcise’ a possessed girl. But things are not all what they appear to be…
And there might lie the ultimate issue with Exorcism, the story starts simple enough and the opening act is mostly setup. However while the first two acts are pretty straight forward; the final act is so jumbled and unintelligible with two twists that I’m still trying to decipher what was going on. [ read review ]
Psycho113 writes;
Somewhat heavy hearted, I have to admit that I didn't find as much enjoyment in The Last Exorcism as I had hoped I would. Some technical merits aside, the film fails to deliver genuine scares, and plays a little too closely into the Blair Witch Project approach (and that's saying something, coming from someone who still quite enjoys BWP). At this point with horror fans saying its really not worth seeing I could care less what the critics are saying. I will be steering clear of the film although in fairness I had no real full hearted intentions of seeing it. If you have seen the film take a minute and submit your review. Good or bad share your review with the community so people can get a fair and true judgement on the film. As of right now, I would suggest you skip seeing it.
