Mary Shelly's 'Frankenstein' to be Modernized?

As we continue to wait for Guillermo del Toro to deliver to us his take on Frankenstein, in which he has Doug Jones playing the part of the creature. The guys over at STYD have revealed that Craig Fernandez (Everything Must Go & From Prada to Nada) has pitched his idea to the guys over at Sony, with his script which is said to be a modern take on Mary Shelly's Frankenstein.

That is all the details there are at this time, the last time Sony brought Mary Shelly's Frankenstein to the screen was back in 1994 in the hands of Kenneth Branagh, and I actually quite enjoyed that one.

Why is everything being 'modernized' these days? Does this mean that Fernandez's take on Frankenstein will be shot in 3D?

What do you guys think?
