Scriptwriter Ehren Kruger talks The Ring 2
Here are a few clips from the interview:
Is there any difference in tone from Ring to Ring Two?
There is a lot of difference in story structure - The Ring Two is more horror than mystery. But I think the tone and visual style of both films are actually very similar, despite having different directors. The Ring also hinged upon a very clear race against time, while The Ring Two constricts a more claustrophobic sense of nightmare. Hopefully audiences will squirm…in a good way.

Have you started Ring Three yet? How much of Ringu 0 is in the third script?
No, there have been no discussions about another movie. That's up to the audience to decide. If Dreamworks does continue the story, I can't imagine they'll use anything from Ringu 0. Its plot hinges on Sadako's life as a teenager, and in our version, Samara didn't live that long.

Did you look to Japanese film for any inspiration?
We were fortunate enough to have Hideo Nakata direct The Ring Two. As one of the original creators of this ever-spreading virus, he was an invaluable resource when it came to Japanese ghost mythology and symbolism, and we've tried to pay homage to that in a few instances. He also did not want to entirely repeat himself as a director, so it was important to him that we were telling a new and different story. However there is a “well chase" in Ringu 2 that we have used a version of in our sequel. Hopefully he's outdone himself there.
