Horror Movers & Shakers 7/7

Goon

The Horror Movers and Shakers column is back again due to popular demand. For those of you who don't remember what this column is all about, let me explain. We have over 2,000 films in our horror database and for everytime you look at on of the films it may move up on our list of most popular movies. So this column is used to point out which films are moving at a rapid pace.

Sin Jin-Smyth UP 1,886 Spots: Every Halloween at midnight, the devil simultaneously appears in two places. The High Plains in India and a quiet cemetery in Kansas.

It's November 2nd, The Day of the Dead. On this dark and stormy night, two federal marshals report to the town Purgatory to transport a prisoner only known as Sin-Jin Smyth.

Alien 3000 UP 1,826 Spots: Three college students leave their school worries behind for a camping weekend of fun. Their fun turns serious when the trio encounters a strange being in a remote cave. Days later, Forest Rangers discover the bodies of the three slain students in the forest.

The crime scene is all too familiar to an unexplained creature attack from years ago that only left one survivor. The military sends out a rouge military unit to hunt the creature with the help of the only survivor of the previous attack, Kate (Megan Malloy) who has been confined to a mental institution since the horrific attack.

City of Rott UP 1,400 Spots: City of Rott is a modern city. There's a number of stores, malls, office buildings, apartments, gas stations and deli stops. There's even a park. Rott city is a big place. And Fred will explore it as far as his tired old legs can take him.

But it's not a vacant city. Not by any means. Hidden in the alleyways, await hundreds of the living dead, desperately waiting for their next meal to arrive, while they slowly rot away. The worms are taking over..

Evil City UP 1,384 Spots: Reporters uncover the dark secret behind Acheron, a shadowy town whose inhabitants have mysteriously died.

Freaked UP 1,197 Spots: Alex Winter stars as Ricky Coogin, an arrogant former child star who becomes the celebrity spokesman for toxic fertilizer Zygrot-24. But when Ricky is taken prisoner by demented sideshow impresario Elijah C. Skuggs (Randy Quaid), he is transformed into a hideous mutant freak to join the likes of The Bearded Lady (Mr. T), Sockhead (Bobcat Goldthwait), a human worm, a giant nose, and their fearless leader, Ortiz The Dog Boy (an uncredited — and unforgettable — performance by Keanu Reeves).

Can a hack actor-turned-genetic nightmare now survive an evil conspiracy of corporate sleazebags, desperate milkmen, Rastafarian eyeballs, canned cheese and most horrifying of all, Brooke Shields? It’s time to get FREAKED!

Ichi 1 UP 1,082 Spots: Based on the original manga, Ichi-1 is the prequel to Takashi Miike's Ichi the Killer. Nao Omori stars as Shiro Ishi (the future Ichi) and Teah is Dai, the best fighter at the local high school. Whenever Dai gets into a fight, Ichi is voyeuristically watching nearby, enjoying the brutality. Dai confronts him but Ichi cannot tear himself away from the bloodshed. It is as though he feeds on the violence.

Everywhere Ichi goes he is considered a weakling and is bullied, taunted and made fun of. Even the younger kids from his karate class show him no respect, but Ichi refuses to fight back. However, on a fateful summer's day, Ichi is pushed too far by a group of his fellow students. The rage inside him is finally unleashed and he flies into a violent fury. The maniacal psyche that dwells beneath the surface is revealed in all its horror and his tormentors pay the ultimate price.

Back at school, Dai is confronted by Onizame, the new boy in town. Onizame is a Hapkido master and is out to relieve Dai of his "best fighter" status. In a ferocious display of fighting prowess, Onizame succeeds by severely beating Dai into submission. Word of Ichi's slaughter of his tormentors soon spreads throughout the school and the stage is set. It's time for a showdown. The best fighters in school versus Ichi the Killer. Who will survive the mayhem and become number 1?
