Oliver Hirschbiegel directing new Body SnatchersMacReady
Oliver Hirschbiegel, director of the WW2 drama "Downfall - Der Untergang", will direct a new version of Jack Finney's classic science fiction novel. The book has been the basis of three big-screen adaptations, beginning with the 1956 and 1978 chillers "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and most recently as 1994's underrated "Body Snatchers".
The story of the movies is about a few people fighting for survival, when they discover that the population of a whole city is systematically cloned by alien "pods" from a distant, dying planet.
This new version, written by Dave Kajganich, centers on a female protagonist who uncovers a conspiracy in a small town where the inhabitants' personalities seem to be changing. Production is set to begin October 2005 on location in Baltimore.
