The Dudes Early Review of DOOM

Thinking about checking out "Doom" this weekend, but you might be unsure of if this is your type of film.. yeah the trailers look great, but we've been tricked before.

You're enjoyment of the film Doom is most likely dependent upon how much you enjoyed John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars. If you liked that movie, then you'll probably have a fun time with Doom. If not, you're probably better off going to see something else.  Doom is Ghosts of Mars without the subtlety and nuance. And I mean that in the nicest way possible. I liked Ghosts of Mars a lot, just so you know where I'm coming from.

I'm not gonna lie to you, it's not a good movie. Not in the slightest. But that doesn't stop it from having a certain goofy charm. I had fun watching it, and laughing AT it. It might find it's way to certain other movies I consider "Crap-tastic". Movies that are so bad they're entertaining. Earlier this year, I had hopes that The Cave would be the next movie of this bad caliber. But that failed mserably. Doom, on the other hand, also attains that level of greatness.

Does it really matter what it's about? Here's what you have to know, all wrapped up in a tidy Hollywood pitch: It's  1/4 Aliens, 1/4 Ghosts of Mars, with a dash of Universal Soldier. Sprinkle a slight dash (very slight) of House of the Dead. Serve with cheese.
