New Indie Film - ROMANCE ROAD KILLERS

ROMANCE ROAD KILLERS is inspired, partially, by a real-life teenage couple (Caril Ann Fugate, 14 years old, and Charles Raymond Starkweather, 19 years old) that murdered 11 people and created the term "spree killers" back in 1958.

Aside from The Great Depression, this is the most important news event in the history of Nebraska. Starkweather was executed shortly after the events. Caril was paroled in 1976 and is rumored to be alive and living in Michigan. Whether she actually contributed to any of the murders, or was Charlie's unfortunate hostage, still remains a mystery.

This movie follows Jacob, 19, and Isabelle, 14, on a killing spree across the roads of California. Although the basis for the film is inspired by the Starkweather Murders, the motives of the killings are very different.

Co-writers/directors Emily Wryn and Shane Ryan have based the couple's background on events involving their own lives, including foster care, child protection agencies, abuse/molestation in the family and in the foster homes, and whether or not the system designed to protect children actually works.
