Horror Comedy,
I've been thinking about this for the entire week. Slither opened up the weekend with a meager $3.7 million in the number 8 slot. That is less than what Stay Alive made in its second weekend. What happened?!
Well it seems like The Hollywood Reporter has beeen scratching its head as well because they have written an entire article asking why a film that has been praised by critics could fall so low. Apparently the studio thinks that it was because it was a sub genre horror comedy that the film failed. Which I think is probably both right and wrong.
I know there is an audience but we are probably not the majority. Most teeny boppers decide which film is gonna be big and thats why movies like When A Stranger Calls gets a nice take of the box office.
The article also quotes Eli Roth a man who right now seems to be the guy to go to when the press wants to know about horror. "There are core groups of fans that love them, but it seems like that the majority of people, when they want to go see a scary movie, they don't want to laugh, they just want to be straight up scared and horrified."
He also threw in this line that will be true about this film. "In 15 years, nobody is going to be watching 'Ice Age: The Meltdown.' Everybody is going to be watching DVDs of 'Slither'."
