Johnny Depp in I Am Legend?

Awhile back it was announced that Will Smith would be playing the lead role of Neville, with Francis Lawerence to direct. Well now Blackfilm is reporting that we may have another A-list celebrity joining the ranks, Johnny Depp.

What role will he play? The overall consensus is that he will possibly play the neighbor, Ben Cortman. His character is the first to get infected and becomes the head vampire. I think that sounds about right for Johnny Depp. Personally if they are going to cast Depp why not make him the lead?

If you haven't read the book I Am Legend, Neville is the last living man on Earth... but he is not alone. Every other man, woman, and child has become a vampire, and they are all hungry for Neville's blood. By day, he is the hunter, stalking the sleeping undead through the abandoned ruins of civilization. By night, he barricades himself in his home and prays for the dawn.
