Universal Enrolls Nightmare Academy

Universal has just picked up the film rights to Nightmare Academy. The book is the first of a trilogy of fantasy novels written by "Arrested Development" co-executive producer Dean Lorey. The book revolves around a boy who learns that bad dreams open portals which allow creatures into the world.

The story sounds alot like The Gate which is a movie I really enjoyed. It was back when it was still OK to use stop motion figures in movies. A movie like that nowadays would lose all its charm in CGI.

Right now the only word is that Lorey will adapt the story with Stephen Sommers producing. There is a small possibility that Sommers could step and direct as well. Lets hope he takes the back seat for this one though. I've seen enough CGI mummies for a lifetime.
