Toronto After Dark Day 1

Tim Hannigan

I just returned from the Opening Night Gala screening of the film “Special” at the First Annual Toronto After Dark Film Festival (review to follow).  The brainchild of Festival Director Adam Lopez, TADFF is bringing 5 days of Sci-Fi, Horror and Fantasy films to the Bloor Cinema, with thirteen feature presentations from around the world, and sixteen film shorts from across Canada.  In addition to the films, there is a “Make Your Own Damn Movie” masterclass with low-budget icon Lloyd Kaufman, and a Zombie Walk for all you ghouls who want to take a leisurely fall stroll through the streets of Toronto [brain-eating and/or flesh-eating optional].

Anyone fortunate enough to attend the Midnight Madness films at the Toronto International Film Festival knows that there is a rabid following for films in these genres in and around the Toronto area.  Once upon a time the Fantasia Film Festival made a stop at the Bloor Cinema, until it came to an end over eight years ago.  Finally Toronto gets a new festival to call its own with TADFF.

The remaining line-up for the festival is as follows:

Saturday October 21st 2006
