Kitamura Returns to Horror on a Train
Ryuhei Kitamura is definetly one of my favorite directors out of Japan. I have always wanted to see what else the guy could do with a real horror film. Some of you I am sure are familiar with his awesome Yakuza-Zombie film Versus. Some of the best zombie fight sequences put on film.
According to Dread Central, Kitamura is back to direct Clive Barkers Midnight Meat Train. The film was originaly going to be a project for Patrick Tatopoulous but at the last minute he had to withdraw. It is still assumed however that his FX shop will still oversee the film.
The Midnight Meat Train was an original short story that was included in Clive Barkers Books of Blood. In the story a local photographer is riding the train looking for this deadly "Butcher" that rides the trains at night. It is probably my favorite short story I have ever read. The only problem is that I think they will have to add alot more to the story to make into a full blown feature film.
The plans at this point are to go for a hard R and not be soft on it. A PG-13 rating would really kill this movie so I hope they stick to their guns with this one. Keep it here for more on this film as it develops.
