Two trailers for Katsuhiro Otomo's Bugmaster

If you're anything like me the first Anime you watched was probably Akira back in the late 80's and were hooked from then on. With its stunning animation, a 'what-the-hell?' storyline and a cool bike, Akira captured the imaginations of thousands of Western adolescents and launched a whole bunch of japanimation onto these shores, from the good (Crying Freeman and Ghost in the Shell) to the weird (Urotsukidoji) to the plain awful (far too many to mention).

Well, Mr Otomo is coming back, and this time he's dragging a live-action film with him, albeit one that is based on an existing sci-fi manga series by Yuki Urushibara. Due for release in Japan in March 2007, Bugmaster sees the legendary director working with live-action for the first time in a feature film, and judging by the trailers on offer (an old teaser and a new longer one) we can't wait to see the final finished film. Bugmaster is an adaptation of a sci-fi manga series by Yuki Urushibara. The cast include Joe Odagiri (Bright Future, Shinobi), Makiko Esumi (Maborosi, Pistol Opera), Nao Omori, Yu Aoi and Reisen Lee. The two trailers are now up and running on the official movie website listed here. Official site -
