Hooper Chainsaws Osama

Well folks...it seems genre heavyweight Tobe Hooper won't be doing Tequila Joe as his next project. Instead, Hooper is branching out from horror and into more political action film. His target, Al-Qaeda.

Shocktillyoudrop has learned that Hooper will be helming the film Training Ground, written by Andy Briggs, whose brother Peter Briggs is probably best known for selling a screenplay for Alien vs Predator back in the 1990s.

The story Briggs has come up with concerns a group of hikers moving along the old Silk Road (if you don't know what that is...pay more attention in history class) and after an accident, stumble into a remote mountain villiage. There, they discover and Al-Qaeda camp and plans for attacks upon the USA. Stealing the plans, the group makes a run for it and the terrorists are quick to give chase...

Yup folks...Hooper is moving away from horror completely for this thing. Even his Sci-Fi films Lifeforce, Invaders from Mars, and Poltergiest had elements of horror throughout. But, it looks like Hooper has decided to try his hand at something different. And that should be pretty exciting. I know it is not really horror news at all...but Hooper is one of the genre's great directors so I thought it should at least be mentioned. No word on release or casting at the moment.
