Silly, silly, silly Rick. You know you should never trust Hollywood with staying true to original source material. You actually got excited about what seems to be a very loyal telling of I Am Legend? You didn't think that they would try to make a sequel now did you?

The above paragraph was what was running through my noggin as I read a brief article on Shocktillyoudrop...yes folks, before Legend even hits theaters a sequel is being discussed according to a brief snippet from the LA Times. Writer of this current film Mark Protosevich is already making a pitch to Warner Bros. about a sequel.

No word if it will continue with Neville's story or if it will concern something else in the Legend universe. Though I think it will continue with Neville. Let me show you the math: Will Smith + Holiday Release + Cool Looking Genre Film + Will Smith = Bank At Box Office. Need I do the math again?

This gets me all pissed off as this obviously shows they aren't being totally loyal to Matheson's storyline. If you haven't read the story, read it now or at least see The Last Man On Earth and/or The Omega Man and you will see why a sequel makes me groan.

In I Am Legend, military scientist Robert Neville is the last man on earth and lives in his fortress home in the heart of New York. He barricades himself in every night to protect him from the thousands of vampires outside his home. Right now I Am Legend is slated to hit theaters on December 14, 2007.
