Remake of Hellrasier Enters Development Hell?

Oh I hope this is true. Oh I can only hope that this is true. It was announced about a year ago that Clive Barker's 1987 Hellraiser would be join the ranks of classics that are put to the remake chopping block. The remake would be made by the Weinstein Company (not a good start considering outside of Grindhouse and 1408 their poor recent genre outings) but good news would have been that Barker would pen the script. News from the remake has been quiet, that is until recently.

I'm not one who usually looks at Ain't It Cool News, but Barker can override that in an interview with Quint over there. Barker touches on the adaptation of Midnight Meat Train as well as other things...but the most pressing for us is the rumored remake of Hellraiser. According to Barker, no one really knows if its still going forward or not:

"I have waited for a long time to see somebody give me a clue...'Is it happening, is it not happening?' Nobody seems to know and I'm not holding my breath while I wait because its frustrating..."

So, the remake might be dead or lodged in development hell...both are really good imo, but it being dead is what I am hoping as some films have a habit of breaking free. I personally have no interest in seeing a Hellraiser remake as the original is so unique as well as there is only one Pinhead. But, keep your eyes peeled here for more news if this does get rolling again.
