Saw 2 Review

Oh Yes, There Will Be Blood, that probably was the biggest understatement that the movie could ever have had. Saw II had swimming pool's worth of blood and for a running time of 93 minuets the cast were swimming in the horrible stuff. Saw II really does take off were the first movie, SAW left off and slowly pieces the storyline cleverly together as the movie runs through. Throughout the movie we are shocked, stunned and completely jumping out of our seats by the overwhelming suspense and overall terror of the movie. It is the truth that the movie is a good one and as horror goes, this one is a hard hitting one but I'm sorry to say but it never touched the first impressive movie.
The movie really does follow the first storyline in certain ways, Saw II also doesn't fail to impress you with its strange and confusing sub plots either. Saw II we have the storyline heightened and in a effort to make the terror more we have 5 subjects thrown in a house full of contraptions, devises and puzzles all designed to kill. So having a storyline like that, a couple of cops swept into the mix and a very strange ending you would think that the movie would scare the shit out of you? Wrong, it fails to do what the first did and that was terrify you to bits, i mean don't get me wrong the movie is very scary and suspenseful but to its predecessor its nothing. The cast includes Donnie Wahlberg, Shawnee Smith, Tobin Bell, Franky G and Glenn Plummer. Watching the cast scream and shake didn't really impress me as much because of the fact that the movies final edit doesn't let you see a clear uncut scene really all through the movie. We are again and again put through high action rock video which switches from frame to frame in seconds, which I'm afraid wasn't all that great. However the high screams really did deafen you throughout and that only added to the harsh reality that the victims were facing.
Blood is brought to us by the bucket loads in this movie, so many deaths in such a short time slot. The movie did look very gritty and impressive throughout just as much as the first movie. It was really cool in the last parts of the movie to get back into the first movies scenes and see the rotted corpses of the first two guys that never made it. It was really the first time Ive seen this sort of connection in a movie and really did add a very nice quality to the movie. Then were brought to the end of the movie, it finishes just like the first movie with the bad guy slamming the door to finish another successful puzzle. Its great, a little cheesy but very good and the movie felt allot longer and knowing that a third movie is in the works really does make feel warm inside. You cant really put anything bad on this movie because visually its really cool and what ever could be show did show in the movie. The only thing that i thought was a total loss in the movie was the fact that in the first we get individual scenes of people before finding them selfs in their own puzzles and then die. Sadly we didn't get the depth in the movie that the first had and you only really see one at the start thats worth a look. Don't get me wrong all the deaths in the second movie are great but everything seems to be locked together in long story and the deaths seemed to be lost and don't stick out like the first movie did.
Screaming, aching heart thumping sounds flow through the movie, the soundtrack is very much like the same in the first movie. We get deep echo sounds, vault like sounds and high sounding hard music is thrown into all the dramatic scenes just to add the finishing touches to a great scene. So altogether this movie isn't all bad, nothing compared to the first but as its own horror a great movie. Great storyline to get lost in, maybe a little confusing at times and tones of blood and guts to keep you smiling over the Christmas period. Excellent scenes to watch out for are, the first eyeballing experience, the gas burning and the syringe leap. If you were a fan of the first movie I'm sure you will love this one too. Nothing is lost really, its just the same as the first but without the added sweetness that the first had, check this out, no seriously do.
