Jeepers Creepers Review
Written by: terrorwatch
When i first saw this movie i was in two minds weather i liked it or not, although its a great story and altogether a great movie people who view it don't really gel with it as i now do. The movie was created in 2001 by Victor Salva, this movie was meant to bring another monster to the horror world and it certainly did. The movie tells a story about a brother and sister that are driving back to their parents after being away, on the way they meet a strange creature that feeds for so many days and they soon find out that there lunch! The advertising for the moviewas great it really looks great, made you think that this was not just another horror movie, but I'm afraid it was. The advertising was so hyped up it was unreal, in the UK everyone was talking about the so called terrifying movie, Jeepers creepers. Don't get my wrong for todays standards this movie was scary but not as scary as it was made out to be.
The main characters shown through the movie manly because there always on screen. Justin Long and Gina Philips play the main characters, as brother and sister they have to overcome the creature that is following them. The two young actors give a really good performances and looks really great for the parts, they really gel and look like real brother and sister. They both have a really cool bond that looks great on screen and a ability to act great together without any faults. Out of the two it was fare to say that Justin Long was the best actor of the movie, his loud mouth and shocking looks stole the acting of the whole movie and sort of overshadowed the great performance of Gina Philips from time to time.
The movie has pretty cool s.e, the creature mainly was a work of art for me and should be hailed as one of the greatest costumes ever made! The whole outfit really looked dark and un-human, it looked so crazy and strange which really rocked. Although killing is the main thing in the movie there is no real blood, just really one stained blood sheet that the creeper is carrying at the start. The thing thats really annoying in the movie is about half way through it gets worse, i mean the first half kept you frightened and scared but the second half was boring and made you relax. This was due to the fact that there was too much of the creeper on screen than off and it gave away its mysterious look and feel about it. This was its biggest downfall.
The movie looks great on screen, allot of camera shots are very good and the creeper chase with the camera shoots of the wheels and the whole set up looks the part. The movie gives you that lonely helpless country feeling and when a monster is chasing you it makes you feel very scared and makes you start praying for bright lights and tall skyscrapers. Scenes in the movie are also cool, i was very impressed with the church and the underground hideout the creature has. It looks great expect for the plastic bodies on the sides which for me looked unreal however there suppose to look. The chase scene after the church body throwing scene really shocked me, it was totally scary and really worked! When i first saw the trailer and seen that scene i though this is a great scary horror movie, i was right to think that!
Overall this movie is OK, its not the class of American werewolf in London or the stupidness of Frankenhooker its just a normal Hollywood movie with something extra to offer. Its style and the feeling it gives off really work for me and make me want to get out the DVD and watch it again and thats what the idea is for every movie thats ever made. Great s.e from the creeper outfit with great acting by the main character and a great story that always makes for a sequel, makes this movie a one to watch.
