When a Stranger Calls (2006) Review

1 out of 10 Skulls

Usually I don't have time to go see movies everyday, so when I get the chance I'll go check out a couple different movies in the same night, as the local regal theater enjoys taking gobs of money out of my wallet for each ticket I buy. The other night I saw When A Stranger Calls, painfully followed by Final Destination 3. Oh what a sad sad night it was. When I first saw the trailer for "Stranger" I got a bit excited to see it, as the idea of a harassing caller being in the same house the whole time is a bit creepy to me. The thing is, thats all there is to it. They made a movie about what we are told from the trailer. The problem with this is that the hook they use in the trailer to get you to go see it is the entire premise of the film. Ok, she's getting scary phone calls and eventually finds out it's a guy in the same house she's been in all along, you got me to the theater. What's new that's going to keep me watching? Oh...that's it huh?

Ever evident in such celeb driven movies like anything by jennifer love hewitt, a movie cannot be saved no matter how hot the star is. Sorry ms. Bell. Anyone who had seen the preview knew exactly what to expect around every corner, and that was it, no surprises, no crazy twists, no surprise ending where the killer is the babysitter's pissed off child molesting father or something, NOTHING. It just ends. That's it, story over. She kept seeing that black cat of the homeowner's, I think I would have had a better time watching this borefest if it was somehow explained that it had been the freakin cat making the calls the whole time. It's so crazy that this piece of shit was even made, I mean Hollywood is never about the soul of films, but christ this was pushing it. It's really too bad money goes toward making films like these, funding the pockets of professional gaffers, grips, and DP's to waste their talent on boring garbage like this, and not more often going towards horror flicks with something to watch for.
