Saw 2 Review

9 out of 10 Skulls

Never in the last twenty years have I seen a sequel be better than it's original version, til now. Not to say the first SAW was a bad movie, because it was not, but to me it seemed like the writers to this movie save the best for the second time around.

This time there are eight victims instead of just two, which obviously means more of a body count. Det. Mathews, a detective that just went through a divorce and is going through some issues with his teenage son, is called to the scene of a murder in which he discovers the killer, Jigsaw, is calling him out by taunting him to "Look closer". He later finds Jigsaw in his booby-trapped lair and is brought to the attention that his son is one of the eight victims trapped in a house filled with deadly nerve gas. Jigsaw informs Det. Mathews that the only way he will ever see his son again is that he has to sit there with him and listen to him, thats it. But as the Det. see's some of the eight on the t.v. monitors start to die trying to get out of the booby-trapped house, he gets antsy and begins to assualt Jigsaw and demands that he let his son go.

I don't think there was anything I didn't like about this movie. Literaly, every moment of the movie I was into and it rearly had a dull moment. From the opening scene of the very first victim trapped in a head device all the way to the conclusion of the movie, I was stuck to the side of my seat. The writers to this film had to go through a whole lot of thinking and plot development for this movie and it resulted in a classic. Most of the kills in this film made me quinge, who wouldn't watching a man cut off his own skin off of the back of his neck or a woman getting thrown on to a bed of surigeses.

The climax was a little risky. The way they had the plot twist at the end was taking a risk in it being cheesy and unlikable, but for some reason in this film it worked. Maybe because I like the first one and loved the second one and was hoping there was a possibility for a third. If the third will live up to the first two will remain to be seen.

For those who love slasher films, they will not be dissappointed with this one and those who love suspense filled films will also be drawned to this movie. Just do yourself a favor, if you haven't seen the first, see it before you see the second so it can have the same impact on you as it did for me. Maybe now in the future when I hear there will be a sequel for something I can have some hope for it being at least decent.
