The Hills Have Eyes (2006) Review
Written by: stewiesinferno
A squeaky clean, all american family take a road trip to California, by driving through New Mexico. They take a short cut, & find themselves cutting through a military testing sight. Being set up, they wreck their vehicle, & fall victim to a family of cannibals residing in the hills.
I was extremely disappointed with this remake. Screenwriter & director Alexandre Aja played off this classic scene by scene. He tried to save his blatant rip off by giving the cannibal family more pysical defects, & adding ample amounts of gore. There was no original thought of his own, & the fact that Wes Craven condoned this (& produced it as well) leaves me speechless.
He does provide a back story for the cannibals. However it was the cannibals mystery in the original that made them disturbing, & all out scary. The acting, & dialogue was no different than all the previous remakes i've seen. Trying to provide the victims personality, so the audience will sympathize while they're victimized. The music score belonged in a Hollywood action film, & added absolutely no suspense.
This was one of the worst remakes I've laid my eyes upon, & became truly offended that the creator of this masterpiece would allow his creation to be butcheered. As flawed as it was, I did enjoy High Tension & was hoping Alexandre can add an original perspective to this easily influential master of horror.
In fact he didnt, & proved nothing as a filmmaker in the horror department.
