Slither Movie Details: DVD, Theatre Date, News, Trailers & More Slither Review
9 out of 10 Skulls
Written by: moviemaven

All right you guys, this is gonna be fun.  I went to see Slither expecting to see basically a reworked version of Night of the Creeps without the coolness of Tom Atkins.  Well, there was no Tom Atkins but there was an assload of coolness...and it did bear some similarities to the aforementioned title but thankfully not enough to piss me off.  LOL All in all, I love this movie.  I was so excited about how good it was that I wanted to run screaming into the lobby and forcibly grab people from the other lines to watch this one.  Don't worry though.  I managed to control myself hence I am not writing this review from the confines of a local cell.   But it really is that good...if you like well written horror/comedy.  I am not talking about the crap that we laugh at because it sucks so bad.  I am talking Shaun of the Dead funny.  As a matter of fact I can't remember the last time I laughed out loud so much at a horror film since SOTD.

From the very first scene this film lets you know in no uncertain terms that they are here to have a good time and are dragging you along for the ride.  An unwelcome guest lands in the peaceful Southern town of Wheelsy.  We never find out what state it is supposed to be, but being Southern myself, I swear I know this place.  You know the drill from then on out really.  A guy is traipsing through the woods and comes across an unidentifiable gooey mass.  So of course he pokes it with a stick.  Jesus, will they ever learn?  Anyway that is when the fun really starts.  This visitor makes himself at home and rapidly wears out his welcome on so many levels.  That may sound completely formulaic and not worth your time.  Well it is formulaic but it is also well worth your time.

The characters are spot on as well as the special effects.  There is so much goo flying around you may wish to pack a raincoat lest you get hit with it Gallagher style.  The effects are seamless and perfect.  My only wish is that there had been more zombie goodness.  As a matter of fact that is the ONLY thing keeping this flick from getting a full 10.  I really love my zombies and wanted more of that.  But hey, we can't always get what we want right?  Besides a 9 is perfectly respectable and means I was not in the least unhappy.  I was laughing my ass off and I even jumped once.  Yeah, it got me once.  I'm not too proud to admit that.  LOL

My favorite character was without a doubt, Sheriff MacReady (no relation to our esteemed Austrian colleague...I hope).  Rooker's comic timing is hilariously on the nose.  Fans of Serenity will also recognize the dear captain as the Chief of police.  A phenomenal leading man to say the least.

So let's sum it up, shall we?  Hilarious and fun, gooey and gory, great FX , terrific acting and one helluva good time.  Yep, that about says it all.  Oh I have one more thing...if anyone you know starts to exibit signs of turning into a squid...it probably is NOT Lyme Disease.   Enjoy!
