Silent Hill Review

I do believe this is one of the most challenging reviews I've ever had to write. On the one hand I have spent several months being all kinds of excited to see this movie because its one of those video games that shouldnt have been that hard to translate to the big screen. So I stubbornly dug my feet in looking for every good thing in this movie. On the other hand, I had to be realistic. There was so much more that could have been done with the movie. Was it the worst movie I've seen?
Absolutely not. Did it live up to my expectations? Not quite. We are introduced to Rose and Sharon in a life endangering situation as we find out that Sharon has sleepwalking problems, all the while screaming out,"Silent Hill!" Her adopted mother Rose has massive concerns for this and decides to take matter into her own hands, against her husbands better judgement. We get to Silent Hill, and with Sharons artistic talents we are led on a grand tour of the abandoned town with the occasional demon here and there and a couple of appearances by Pyramidhead to give some "Oh My God" factor. Ok the pros to this movie; the music, special effects, cinematography, and the actors they got for the characters were top notch, especially the character for Sharon. She was very creepy.
Like Damien in the Omen creepy. There werent any jumpy parts in the movie but it definitely had creep factor to it. I have to admit to wincing in my seat a time or two. The cons, well, the acting wasnt that great and the dialogue was the first thing I noticed that wasnt up to par. And the movie did drag some. If it wasnt for the violent parts, the gore, the blood, well the movie would have been flat out boring. Unfortunately, I was practically clapping with glee when someone got tortured or killed because it meant it was about to get exciting again. As for following the game, well I have seen worse adaptations. This seemed to have followed pretty well. The camera angles tried to stay on course. I was disappointed with the fact that there was no jump factor. I jumped more with the game. But all in all, it was better than Doom, thats for sure. As geeked as I was to see this movie, it would not have killed me to wait for the DVD release. Hell, maybe I might have gotten lucky and it would have been unrated.
