Every writer's worst nightmare is their number one fan. At least if said number one fan is Annie Wilkes, that is. Stephen King weaves the terrifying tale of novelist Paul Sheldon who has become famous for his Misery novels but now he would like to branch out. So he has taken his usual retreat in the country to finish his latest book. He runs into a bit of trouble, though as he is driving home through a blizzard.

Luckily for him, Annie spots his car in a snow bank and brings him to her secluded home to nurse him back to health. Or so we might think. Annie becomes enraged when she discovers that he has killed Misery, her beloved heroin. I mean, c'mon, she even named her pet pig Misery. THAT is devotion. She then decides that he should get rid of his latest trash and resurrect Misery. And she has exactly the right kind of motivation...for a psycho.

As Paul heals, he begins to question his release but Annie keeps telling him the phone lines are down and the roads are too bad for the ambulance to get through and tranpsort him to civilzation. When Paul learns she is not telling him the whole truth, he attempts an escape. But Annie decides he should stick around. *Here comes more um...motivation.*

Meanwhile there is a mad hunt for the missing writer that is lead by the small town sheriff. But will the authorities find him before its too late? Or will Paul be forced to live the rest of his Cock-a-doodie life at the hands of his fanatical nurse? I know a writer writes to live, but this is just plain ridiculous.
