Bone Sickness Review

8 out of 10 Skulls

I love indie horror films, if you want something original or extreme or special in any way indie films are where to look. True you don't always get the best acting or special effects or costumes or music but at least it's not the same rehashed crap put out by major studios. Don't get me wrong some studio movies are great and can become classics but..... hold on, sorry, I went on a rant there for a second o.k. to the review of Bone Sickness. Poor, Poor, Alex has a bone disease that makes him weak and useless which is a shame because him wife is uber-hot and has huge ..... again, sorry kind of drifted off there for a second.

Anyway his best friend comes up with a form of alternative medicine, lets feed him bone marrow from dead people! O.K. at what point would anyone feel that this is a good idea? So none-the-less he doesn't get better and at the same time they are making the dead very angry, angry enough in fact to come out of the grave and munch on the living, sucks to be anyone in that town. Now the guts of my review, literally, the zombie make-up is really good, each one is a full head and chest prosthetic and they look super nasty.

The blood and guts are top notch, as the people are ripped apart and eaten alive the intestines and organs are absolutely nasty. Another plus is there is a fair amount of useless nudity and who doesn't like that. BUT not all is good in zombie land, they forgot small details like the zombies hands look normal and some are wearing new shoes. The editing is a little choppy but pretty good, there are a lot of cut scenes to the graveyard where nothing is happening, not sure why. In a lot of the death scenes you feel cheated because the camera will cut to a very obvious cheap sight gag instead of showing the whole person as they die.

In a way I could see why they took that route, probably due to budget restraints. The end of the film is total chaos and tons of bloodshed and people being torn to pieces, it's a gorehounds dream and it even takes a rather odd twist that I won't ruin for you. In conclusion class this is a good zombie film, it has some shortcomings but what indie production doesn't. I have seen much worse made with more money and bigger actors so don't be afraid to rent this bad boy or even buy it. I probably will go and buy the DVD simply because I am a zombie fiend and it's well worth the money. I can't wait to see what the director can do with a bigger budget and a few more gallons of blood.
