Hard Candy Review

As much as I thought this would be another in a long line of torture movies in a way it's not. Nor is it a straight forward revenge movie but it has both of these elements. The background story is fairly simple; Hayley is a 14 yr old girl flirting on the internet with 30 year old Geoff. The finally agree to meet for coffee and with some good dialog you see the innocent girl and the predator roles played out. He tells her that he had an illegal MP3 of her favorite band and smooth talks her into coming back to his house to hear it. At this point you as the voyeur are wondering how naive this girl is but it's not too long before the tables are turned and the prey becomes the predator.
There are a lot of twists and turns to the story and i won't ruin any of them with my review so I am not going to go into much more detail about who does what to whom. What I will say is the film it is an emotional roller coaster as far as who you feel sorry for at that moment. In the end you have to ask yourself as the viewer if the end justifies the means. I for one say hell yes. Ellen Paige is absolutely amazing; she can go from the innocent girl to cold-blooded in a matter of seconds and is flawless in her delivery, at some point she is down right scary. Patrick Wilson as Geoff is so smooth as the one in control in the beginning but as the movie progresses he shows fear, weakness, and rage and pulls off each emotion very well. The plot is very well thought out and the dialog is very well done, to say I was impressed in an understatement.
There is no gore to speak of but there are parts of the film where the violence is very real looking and at some points just implied which is enough at one specific moment to make most men cringe. (You'll understand after you watch it) This movie is all psychological it is by no means a traditional "horror" film. This is not one for the kids though so don't think because there is no blood it's all good. I highly recommend this movie it is probably on of the best I have seen in the last six months and cannot wait for the director next effort. Thanks for reading my review and have a great time watching this film.
